Text processing

Path: Settings → Text processing → Local text handling. These operations run on-device without an LLM.

Strip trailing period

On by default. Removes one final 。 or . for chat-style text. It can run after recognition and is applied again to polished or translated text, so a final period added by a model may also disappear.

Smart spacing

Off by default. When enabled, it reads the characters around the caret during insertion and adds spaces where needed between English words or Chinese/Latin/digit boundaries. It does not separate Han characters and may adjust English capitalization mid-sentence.

This needs caret context from Accessibility. The rules are skipped when an app, including some terminals, cannot provide that context.

Word replacements

Correct fixed words or phrases before, after, or both before and after polish or translation. Without AI, manual rules run once. See Word replacements.

Relationship to polish

These steps occur after recognition, around AI processing, and during final insertion. LLM polish is optional; direct voice typing skips polish while retaining local text handling. A polish model can produce paragraph formatting according to its style or your custom instructions.
